Some of the common problems in the mobile phone market have been the same as those that plague the home computer market. Consumers want faster, more powerful and safer phones. Add to that the wish to have great graphics and plenty of apps, and the latest advancements in technology are easy to predict.

Now that the smart phone is a consumer product instead of a business product, the developers must out-market the next guy. The iPhone put out the challenge and the other companies showed they could play, too. The ease of use of just about every other smart phone maker has increased to meet Apple’s design.

A few of these devices have gone beyond solving the common problems of speed and power. They also address user preferences. Some of the most impressive phones are the ones that have both a touch screen and a key pad. That makes the mobile phone a tool for serious business and pleasure. As you explore the many technology options, check out Cricket cell phones. They’re pay as you go, so you won’t beat yourself up with buyer’s remorse.

A few other common problems that have been addressed with the advancement in mobile technology are the issues of space and weight. For the business traveler on a quick trip, a smart phone can easily replace a small laptop. With hundreds of thousands of apps and many user designs to choose from, there is hardly anything a mobile device can’t do.

As smart phone technology has made it easier to access the Internet from just about any location, search engines have started to develop applications that will make it easier for users to find the content that they want. Google, for instance, has recently released new tools that will make it easier and faster for Android users to find information on the go. Consider the advantages of these tools to help you get the most out of your smart phone.

Google’s Query Builder

Google’s new query builder makes it much easier for smart phone users to find information that they want online. When you start typing, the Google search engine immediately starts making suggestions for you. If, for instance, you want to find information about bird feeders, then you would start typing “bird.” As you typed, Google would guess which phrase you want. As soon as the proper phrase appears, just press it and you are taken directly to your results.

Google Map Locations

You can also allow Google Maps to note your location so that it can find search results that are near you. Let’s say you are on vacation in another country when you suddenly find that you’re very hungry. Google can now help you find the cafes and restaurants that are right around you. It’s like having a fancy GPS system built directly into your search engine.

Other Google innovations that have recently been unveiled include listing icons at the bottom of the Google page that can help you find cafes, pubs, and restaurants near you simply by clicking on the icon.

What type of innovation would you like to see for your smart phone?

The 3 Advances We Can’t Live Without

The world of technology has created a number of advancements that we use in our everyday life. There are some, of course, that don’t exactly deserve the label “necessary,” but there are others that have been woven into the fabric of our lives and we’d be a bit lost without them. So here is a look at three advancements that we can’t live without.

The smartphone is one of the best inventions of the last thirty years. It’s no longer enough to just be able to make a call wherever you are. Nowadays the phone you use acts more like a personal assistant than anything else. From checking your email, getting turn by turn directions, to even playing bingo with your friends, the smartphone has everything you could want and then some. Take this away and people would be hopeless.

Wireless internet has been another invention that most companies, people and places can’t live without. Think about all the times a coffee shop uses free internet to get people into the shop, or how many people have laptop connect cards. In a world where people are increasingly on the go it’s helpful to have a network they can hook up to that doesn’t require a modem and a router plugged in.

Medical information databases are as important as anything we’ve developed. No longer does a person have to travel and worry about falling ill and not getting the proper care. With the newest advancements you can check records of a patient wherever they are and give them the care they need. These advancements aren’t just an exciting part of our world. They are a necessity.

Helping Your Computer Run Faster

Everyone who has ever used a computer has experienced those days where everything slows to a grind: the images on the screen freeze, pages are slow to load, and programs respond slowly to commands. Fortunately, in most cases it is nothing serious, and is usually easy to fix.

If the computer is just running slowly and not going from page to page with its usual speed, try clearing its cache. To do this, simply click on the “tools,” “options” or “internet options” (depending on your browser) tab at the top of your browser window. In Internet Explorer, click on “general.” In Firefox, click on “privacy.” From there, check the boxes of the items you wish to clear, such as temporary files, history or cookies. These all contain copies of websites you have visited, which helps them to load faster when you visit that page again. Computer memory is limited, and these files can take up too much space if they are allowed to accumulate.

Also try deleting regular files that you no longer need. Very large files such as photos and other graphics take up a great deal of memory. When the computer can’t access much free memory, it takes much longer to perform tasks. After you have deleted unwanted files, be sure to empty the recycle bin.

Finally, be sure to keep a reliable anti-malware program running at all times. Real-time anti-virus scanning and firewalls keep your computer protected from viruses and other harmful programs while you are online. While a slow computer does not necessarily mean you have a virus, viruses, Trojans and other malware can cause system instability and harm your system.

Online Gambling

Back before digital era began, when people thought about poker, the first thing that came to mind were casinos in Vegas that were home to men in black hats and shady jobs. Today when people think poker, or any card game for that matter, the first thought is not necessarily to the Vegas strip. Instead, people are now trading in their chips and cheap drinks for digital card tables and Internet betting.

Many people have traded in their professional suit-and-tie jobs to play a hand on the electronic table as a full time job. What’s more, this trend is becoming more fashionable and those who are good enough to win are rewarded well for their game. Many online games have become competitive, meaning that players are not short on games that they can play to make a living.

The easy access to various games online has increased the number of people playing bingo and pokers online. According to Christiansen Capital Advisers, the profits received from Internet poker went from the millions to the billions in less than five years time. Considering that a large number of people base their livelihood on professional online gambling, it’s not too surprising that the revenue numbers have gone up at such an amazing rate.

However, while the competition rages on there are still other games, such as online Bingo, that continue to be a hobby game. Additionally, there are a lot of people who enjoy playing bingo, solitaire, or hearts as non-competitive or even just basic computer vs. player games. There is certainly no shortage to the options for any online gamer.

Strategies for Teaching Grandparents to Use a Computer

Content

Many people in their sixties or later have a desire to use computers, but they are afraid to try because it all seems so foreign. If you have a grandparent that wants to learn how to use computers, there are a lot of things you can do to help them learn the functions they want and not get so stressed out.

Start with the basics, like how to turn on the computer and use the mouse. You’ll probably think it is funny to see your grandparent struggling to click the correct button, but you had to learn this at some point, too, so don’t laugh because this will discourage them.

After your grandparent is familiar enough with the basic way to use the computer, you can start teaching them the functions that they will actually use, like e-mail and finding information on the Internet. What you will want to do is write everything out for them in a list so that they can refer to it when you are not there. Otherwise, they will become frustrated and give up before you’ve had a chance to show them how easy it can be.

The best method of teaching for your grandparents is hands-on. This will make it much easier for them to retain information and be able to repeat the process when you are not around. Stand behind your grandparent while you give them instructions. If you do everything for them, there is no way they will be able to do it by themselves.

Make shortcuts on the desktop for everything that they will use on a regular basis, like a link to a browser and a link to their e-mail. They will learn later how to access this information without an icon, but it makes things a whole lot easier in the beginning. Remember to speak in a non-technical way too — Your grandparents don’t need to know what RAM means. That will come with time.
